“Renjishi” was written by Mokuami Kawatake based upon the moral story in which a parent Shishi (lion) pushes their children Shishi-s down into the bottomless valley with the intention of raising only those who were able to run back up from the valley.  It is regarded as the representative piece of Kabuki dancing, and truly touches the audience’s heart as it is performed by a real parent and son. The climax of this performance is painted in Pelikan Maki-e “Renjishi”, where the white haired parent Shishi and the red haired child Shishi dance together wildly and gorgeously as a perfect match.

The “Renjishi” is a masterpiece that combines the craftsmanship of Pelikan Germany with 170 years of tradition and technology with the superior Japanese Maki-e techniques which are renowned the world over.

The Pelikan logo is on the crown along with the limited edition number and the artist’s signature are drawn in by hand using the Maki-e technique.  The “Renjishi” is a worldwide limited edition of only 88 pieces.
