My history with fountain pen is only with:
1. My old and trusty Parker Vector, which I used for almost 10 years before the cap broke.
2. This Lamy 'Alu'.
So far the impression is a good one, it's smoother to write using this one compare to the Parker, given the nib of this one is also bigger.
My only complaint is the size of the pen is huge (the diameter) compare to the skinnier Parker. And the design of the holding part will force you to hold the pen in a very specific way.
Would buy it again for myself and my girlfriend, and whoever I think will like it :))

Lamy Al-Star fountain pens embody the best in contemporary design: simple and elegant, they work beautifully. Yet they are sufficiently robust to survive rough treatment. And if you do lose or break one the price is such that it is not the end of the world.
The anodised barrel and cap is a delightful piece of industry inspired design. The window in barrel lets you see how much ink is left in the cartridge, or better still, the refillable converter.
The shaped grip guides hands that may be new to fountain pens to hold it correctly.
The steel nibs come in a range from EF to 1.1mm and include a nib for left handers. Nibs are easily replaced. I have quite a few nibs and they have all written smoothly. If I had a wish it would be for an EEF nib. European size nibs tend to be slightly broader than the same size nibs made by Chinese or Japanese brands.
Overall, a wonderful pen, that I use everyday.

I was purchased lamy vista a year ago, but due to fine nib was very less using it. And tried looking for extra fine nib but hard to find at singapore. Till i found someone post pen gallery web. Received the items AL Star with EF, only down side was the body, bigger than Vista but the body can swap able. N i love the lamy extra fine nib as well as the ink... due to still new with fountain pen ink i find lamy ink work really good for me. Tks.
